Pins Mechanical Company

Pins is the Nashville outpost of a small Midwest-born chain, but it doesn't feel imported — it fills a converted Gulch warehouse with sixteen duckpin lanes, a full arcade, and enough side games (shuffleboard, cornhole, giant Jenga, bocce, ping pong) that groups larger than four or five can actually split up and still end up at the same bar rail by the end of the night. Duckpin — smaller ball, squat pins, three throws a frame — is easier to pick up mid-conversation than ten-pin, which is part of why it works as well for a first date as it does for a work happy hour.

The arcade is free to play, with proceeds benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities, and pinball runs a dollar a game. The bar covers craft beer and cocktails but there's no kitchen — food comes from rotating trucks parked outside or whatever's nearby in the Gulch, so plan dinner around that rather than expecting a menu. The patio, with its fire pits and lawn games, is the better hang in decent weather and tends to be where the crowd migrates as the night goes on.

It's genuinely built for families before 8pm — kids are welcome and the arcade skews that way early — and then flips to a 21-and-up bar scene for the rest of the night, Monday through Saturday. That split makes it one of the few Nashville venues that works equally well for an afternoon with kids and a Friday night out, just not at the same time.
