Bastion Big Bar
The front bar at Bastion, walk-in only and separate from the tasting-menu room behind it, pours sharp craft cocktails alongside a short list of beer and a plate of nachos that regulars order on principle. It's the loosest, most neighborhood-feeling room in Wedgewood-Houston, no reservation required.
Bastion the restaurant is one of Nashville's genuine culinary landmarks — chef Josh Habiger's tasting-menu room earned a Michelin star in November 2025 — and the Big Bar is the walk-up, no-reservation counterpart bolted onto the front of it. Same building, same team, none of the formality: you can show up in whatever you're wearing, grab a stool, and order off a shorter menu without booking weeks out, which in a neighborhood as reservation-heavy as Wedgewood-Houston has become is genuinely useful.
The nachos are the thing people talk about, for better or worse — a tall stack of chips layered with chicken, queso, jalapeños, radish, pickled onion, and salsa, finished with sour cream. They're a legitimate reason to go on their own, though reviews on them run from cult-favorite to overrated depending who you ask; either way, ordering a plate is what regulars do. Pair it with a rotating beer list or one of the boozy punches rather than overthinking the cocktail menu.
It's a small, unpretentious room that works best as a first or last stop rather than a full night out — grab a stool before or after a Bastion tasting menu next door, or treat it as its own casual hang if you live in or near Wedgewood-Houston. It doesn't take reservations, which means weekend nights can mean a short wait at the door, but turnover is quick.
